Nigel Walker runs London Marathon to support AGSD-UK.

London Marathon 2021

AGSD-UK would like to say a huge well done and thank you to long time member Nigel who ran the London Marathon earlier this month. It’s an incredible achievement and we are immensely grateful for the money Nigel raised for the charity.

Nigel trained for 8 months, getting up at 5 in the morning. It all paid off though as he completed the marathon in an amazing time of 4hr and 44 seconds.

An experience I will never forget

Nigel gave us an insight into his day:

“Running the race was an experience I will never forget. The first 20-21 miles were easy enough having done training runs at 20 miles, but from 21 – 26 miles were tough as my legs suddenly went really heavy. I was tempted a few times to stop for a minute or two but I was determined to keep going and cross the finish line without stopping. My wife came with me and I spotted her twice on the run, once at the cutty sark and the other at parliament square (which really helped me in the last mile). I also got a bit emotional when running over Tower Bridge and crossing the finishing line.

It’s an experience I will never forget as it’s a very difficult race to get into. I would like to thank you for your support and promoting me in the AGSD magazine, I was happy I could run for you and raise some money for the charity. I have looked to enter some more races next year (not marathons yet), and will look to wearing the fantastic running vest you got me to promote the charity and fantastic work that you do.

Ailsa (trustee) commented:

“I cannot thank you enough for running the London Marathon and raising money for the AGSD.  I am always hugely impressed by anyone who devotes the time to training and then complete the run.  It sounds as though you had a memorable experience and the smile in your pictures tells it all.”

It’s not too late to sponsor Nigel via his Virgin Money Giving page.
